SANSHO THE BAILIFF

SYNOPSIS: Kenji Mizoguchi’s masterpiece follows a noble family torn apart in feudal Japan: after their father is exiled for defying a tyrannical governor, his wife and two children are separated by slave traders. The children grow up in bondage under the cruel estate steward Sansho, and years later the son must choose between compassion and the corrupting power he has inherited.
