MIXED MATCH
SYNOPSIS: For multiracial patients battling life-threatening blood diseases, finding a genetic match for a bone marrow transplant can be a heartbreakingly steep climb — international donor registries are still overwhelmingly skewed toward single-race donors. MIXED MATCH follows several mixed-race patients racing against time as they search for a match, while advocate Athena Asklipiadis works to raise awareness and grow the pool of multiracial donors. Blending intimate personal stories with striking animated sequences, director Jeff Chiba Stearns turns a life-or-death medical crisis into a powerful call to action about identity, belonging, and the ties that connect us all.
